The In’s and Out’s of Deep Sea Fishing

When you’re a resort that is situated in the quaint fishing town of Puerto Morelos, it seems only fitting that you offer deep sea fishing as an activity for guests. And at Now Jade Riviera Cancun, we do just that. Guests of our resort are able to enjoy deep sea fishing and a number of other activities while staying at our resort.

Deep sea fishing, also known as sport or big game fishing, is a form of fishing in which fisherman hunt for large open-ocean fish species. In the Riviera Maya, deep sea fisherman often try to catch marlin, sailfish, mahi mahi (dorado), wahoo, grouper, snapper and kingfish.

The primary goal of deep sea fishing is to travel far enough away from land so that a fisherman can reach very deep areas of the ocean and have access to a number of different fish species. Most deep sea fishing boats will actually travel beyond the sight of land.

Once the boat travels far enough out to sea, fishermen use different techniques to catch the fish. Some use nets, while others prefer to spread bait throughout the water and hook the fish individually as they surface. Deep sea fishing is actually quite a challenge and fisherman need to constantly be on their toes as big fish can be seen and then quickly escape.

If you’re interested in deep sea fishing during your stay with us, be sure to check in with the activities desk upon arrival and they will be more than happy to help you arrange this!
